Dig a litte deeper

Well,
This week was a very active week. The machines were hauling....... dirt - what did you think I was going to say - anyway - they have made a lot of progress in hauling out the "bad dirt" and prepping for the "good dirt" that is required to pour the concrete pad.

The whole area looks worlds apart from what used to be out back. By Friday night Oct 31 there should be a huge change and if we still have good weather next week it will go through a second transition that will start to "form."

Stay tuned for more construction dribble....

Rain Rain Go Away!

It weighs over 6 tons, it belches thick black smoke and it cuts through the earth like my son at a buffet... It can run over and crush a stack of cars and destroy standing buildings....

BUT YOU LET IT RAIN and it is nearly useless.

That's right - a huge bulldozer that can run rough shod over any mound of dirt can be stopped cold by a handful of rain drops strategically placed over a relatively short period of time.

So - I look out the window at the yellow dinosaurs brought to their knees by a hole of mud.

The wind and the sun today should be enough to bring these fire breathing behemoths back to life on Wednesday Oct 29th...

Lets pray that the earth will be moved tomorrow.

Verizon is DONE!

Ok, after much wailing and gnashing of teeth Verizon finally showed up, did the work and got out. SO what does that mean?
It means that the work can move on. Over the next couple of days there should be some changes and by the end of the month there will be MAJOR changes. The excavation company is going to try to make up some of the two weeks that we lost because of Verizon.
And since the rest of the sub-contractors are ready to go it should begin to pick up pace.
Pray for good weather...

Yippie we have reached the Verizon

They, they being Verizon, showed up today and actually WORKED!!!!
Yippie - they will be completed by 10am on Tuesday Oct 21... and we will be rocking along.
Soon you will see the "footprint" of the building. BUT - dont be deceived because it will look smaller than it appears - I cant explain it...
BUT - as soon as the walls go up the whole things starts to look better...

Stay tuned for a really neat opportunity that church members will have to make their own mark on the new building - for now lets call it the "Faith Annex"......

Here we go...

Though Verizon has not officially shown up - the excavation company is working in anticipation of them being here today or Thursday.
I am just glad to see the belching of black diesel smoke and feeling the ground shake as the move the dirt around.
Jason should be adding photos soon...

Sure, you forgot... RIGHT

Here is how the conversation goes...

"Hello - Verizon Construction Division, may I help you?"

"Hi, this is Mr Anderson the project manager for PCB, I was wondering where you guys were - you were supposed to be here on Wednesday this week to take care of your cable."

"Please hold."

"Hello, this is Mr. ABCDE of Verizon Construction..."

"Hi, this is Mr Anderson the project manager for PCB, I was wondering where you guys were - you were supposed to be here on Wednesday this week to take care of your cable."

"...If you would like to leave a message press one now... you may press 9 to return to the operator."

"Hello, Verizon Construction Division"

"Please DONT transfer me again ...

"Ok, let me try this again - this is Mr Anderson the project manager for PCB, I was wondering where you guys were - you were supposed to be here on Wednesday this week to take care of your cable."
and DONT put me on HOLD!

"May I help you sir?"

"Yes, can you give me the status on work order number #######?"

"Hold Please..."

"Dang it"

"Yes sir, that project is scheduled for Wednesday."

"Uh, this is Friday and you were supposed to be here Wednesday.'

"Yes, sir but the Verizon contractor forgot to schedule Miss Utility as required by law and they cannot work until they do."

"Do you mean to tell me that they forgot to contact Miss Utility?"

"Yes sir."

"Really?

"Yes sir."

"You have got to be kidding?"

"No sir."

"Ok... what is the status?

"The computer shows that Miss Utility will be there on Monday (maybe Tuesday) and the contractor will be there on Wednesday to perform the work."

"So they will indeed be here Wednesday to work?

"Yes, sir... they should, that's all I know."

"Ok, we will see... thank you... good bye."

And now you know the saga of why Verizon didnt show up . Feel free to contact Verizon to let them know your displeasure... better yet use the time you would have spent on the phone with them to pray for the church and the construction process - it will definitely be more productive.

More later....

The Verizon moved

Well,
Just like at your home - the phone company tells you that they will be at your house from this time to this time (say 12 to 5) and you have to be home... and then what do they do?????
They don't show up!
It seems that non-residential buildings get the same treatment (at least they are consistent and fair) .
SO - pray that they - Verizon - will show up on Thursday to do what they said they would do on Wednesday.

Recent Pictures of Construction and Delivery

Here are a couple of pics of what goes on here during the day while most of you are not here. The first one as you can see is the diging out of the dirt. The second one is the delivery of the steel frame of the new addition. It is currently being staged on the Moose Lodge's property!
I'll be adding pics every so often so you can see what happens while your not here. It's pretty amazing to watch, trust me, Doug and I know!!!

On the Verizon

As of Monday - OCT 6 - Verizon is scheduled to be here digging and moving the cable on Wednesday OCT 8.
Once that happens the excavation can fly - Prince William Pipe Line will work quickly to get the dirt out and the footers dug so the concrete can be poured...
As activity takes on a faster pace we will try to keep up with the progress - posting pictures more often.

Waiting on Verizon

Today is Sunday Oct 5th -
As of today we are still waiting on Verizon to come and move their cable.
We hope that they will do that this week and then things can start rolling.
The steel portion of the building is sitting in the Moose Lodge parking lot.
Every one of the sub contractors has their stuff and is ready to go... we will try to post pictures soon so you can see what is going on...

Please be in prayer and please support this great work!
